Tarja Ervasti, 2018

The light installation by Tarja Ervasti creates musical landscapes of colour and sound. The visual form of the piece alludes to the light organ, an instrument used in creating colour music, and to horizontal landscapes.

Oula Salokannel ja Annu Wilenius

The installations by Oula Salokannel and Annu Wilenius are created using many different mediums. They allude to the Japanese still life tradition through which the two artists examine Finnish existence from a dweller’s point of view, as an ‘inhabited reality’, the substratum of life. Although the two artists have collaborated for several years, in this exhibition they present independent works that are presented in the gallery side by side.

I have been living in Finland since 2009 but my knowledge of Finnish language is still very limited. Although English is widely spoken, I find myself often in unclear and incomprehensible situations.

Soon it’s Christmas.

As a child, Christmas was magical, filled with expectation. Recently the Christmas dinners have started to feel like frames in a stop motion animation; the people around the table aging at a break-neck pace, only the ceramic candle holders from Turku castle remain unchanged.
