Mounted in the MUU Cable gallery, the Other Kinds of Signs joint exhibition is part of the Christmas season’s programme at the Cable Factory. Katja Luoto has embroidered signs of her own on old textiles, giving them a new lease on life. The artist duo Mark & Potta invites the audience to leave their signs on a collective artwork in a Christmas spirit. The Kapybara group presents fairytale-like videos and photographs.
In addition to the exhibition, there will also be events in the gallery on weekends.

KATJA LUOTO’s art is a process of constructing her own personal history, in which she situates herself into the continuum of generations of women. Luoto’s works are comments on the present, even when they draw their inspiration from the past, such as traditional Karelian decorated towels that have retained the figure of Mother Earth to this day.

Luoto gives equal weight to everyday chores and sacred rituals. Washing the dishes or peeling vegetables are part of everyday life, yet they are also opportunities for reflection. Texts on sticky notes become images of life.

ARTIST DUO MARK & POTTA explores the zones between painting, sculpture, textile and collage in their works in MUU Cable. Their dominant theme is tolerance. A collective work entitled Peace Wall will be created in the gallery with the audience. The result will be both accidental and surprising.
Mark & Potta is an imaginary artist duo created by Helsinki-based visual artist Tuija Markonsalo. The duo is a sustained project that also includes an experimental picture book.

KAPYBARA is an artistic trio consisting of a visual artist, a composer and a dancer/choreographer. Their productions are multidisciplinary works that are often documented on video. The Christmas exhibition presents short video poems in which the world of fairytale blends with wonderful and mundane things and events. The video poems can also be enjoyed by people with visual or aural impairment as the sounds and the visuals are designed to function also as independent works.
