Artists’ Association MUU will organise a seminar on 28 February 2013 at Wip:konsthall in Stockholm. The theme of the seminar is the new opportunities for the archiving and distributing of sound art and performance art. In 2011, MUU published a performance art database, which archives and promotes new performance art by Finnish artists. This year MUU will launch a new database for Finnish sound art. The seminar will examine these projects and explore similar possibilities in Sweden and elsewhere in Scandinavia. Would a Pan-Nordic project be necessary and possible?

A part of the Seminar will also be a visit to the Room for Eyes and Ears media art exhibition at the Finnish Institute in Stockholm. Organised jointly by MUU, Finnish Institute in Stockholm, Artek, Genelec and Marimekko, the exhibition is an innovative combination of Finnish sound art and design.
(Home for Eyes and Ears, open till 2 March. Gallery of the Finnish Institute in Stockholm, Snickarbacken 4 (next to Birger Jarlsgatan 35), Stockholm, Sweden. Open Tue–Thu 12–6 pm, Fri–Sat 11 am–3 pm. www.finlandsinstitutet.se)

The seminar will be rounded off with a sound art concert by Petri Kuljuntausta, one of the most acclaimed sound artists in Finland.

Petri Kuljuntausta is a composer, musician, sound artist and author of three books on electronic music and sound art. Since 1990’s he has belonged to a new generation of composers in Finland interested in experimental and electronic music. Petri Kuljuntausta is famous for music composed of sounds both natural and extraordinary. Kuljuntausta has composed digital music for experimental films, video art, visual art and dance projects, and made media and sound installations in museums, galleries and concert halls. In 2005 he received an award, The Finnish State Prize for Art, from the Finnish government as a distinguished national artist.

In the concert, Petri Kuljuntausta will perform tracks from his new CD album, Emergence, which will be released at the concert. He will also perform generative music with a computer, an electric guitar and a mobile phone.

Wip:sthlm [work-in-progress] is a collaboration between ninety-three artists working in a for the purpose renovated space. Covering two floors, the space houses 83 artist studios, a gallery, shops, a project-room and an office. By building an organization where a large group of artists can cooperate, wip:sthlm hopes to create a great working space by sharing shops, kitchens and ideas that can make for a generous environment for both artists and audiences.

The gallery, wip:konsthall, has presented a public programme since 2007 aiming at creating a space for ongoing discussions amongst artists and other professionals within the field of arts. The programme is produced by the artists at wip:sthlm and invited collaborations focusing on work-in-progress, a format that extends the concept of exhibitions and introduces new encounters with art, and artists.
