Artists’ Association MUU organises a media portfolio workshop for performance artists.

Workshop participants create a media portfolio that showcases the participant’s own work through documentary material. In addition to presenting the artist’s work, the portfolio will also include an interview with the artist shot during the workshop. For the video, participants are required to prepare a demo performance that can be shot in a studio. (The interview and demo performance will be shot in cooperation with a practice firm from the Audiovisual Communication programme at Heltech – Helsinki City College of Technology). Participating artists will need to present ample documentary material (videos, stills, CVs) on their previous work.

The key idea in the workshop is to explore the issues of performance documentation and its presentation.

Performance and its documentation are examined from different viewpoints, covering everything from live performances to lens-based video performances. The ideas are also discussed in open lectures that also examine copyright issues relating to performance documentation.

The goal of the workshop is to create for each participating artist an aesthetically as well as informatively high-quality media portfolio which can promote the artist’s employment prospects and enhance marketing. The portfolio will be published on a DVD. There are plans also to produce versions for online publication.

The portfolios will be presented at the MUU Monday event on 28 January 2013 in the MUU gallery. We are also planning to present the portfolios in 2013 at international fairs and festivals.

The teacher in the workshop is artist Eeva-Mari Haikala. Eeva-Mari works mainly with performance, video and photography. Her specialisation is lens-based performance. She almost invariably performs in her works, using her own body, experiences and memories as material. Eeva-Mari is currently conducting PhD research on the subject of performance at the Roehampton University in London.
