MUU Monday: ARTISTS TALK Kacper Ziemianin 13th August 2012

kacper_ziemianinKACPER ZIEMIANIN is MUU’s artist in residence in August 2012.
On Monday, August 13, at 6 pm he will give an Artist Talk in the MUU gallery.

Kacper Ziemianin is Polish sound artist, based in London. In his Artist talk Ziemianin will present his background, education and main interests. He will play examples of his works, both audio and video, and show instruments that he has made. He will talk about future plans and about the exhibition that he is going to have at Gallery Akusmata in Helsinki.

Questions by audience are welcome, for example about the sound workshop Ziemianin will be running, starting 20 August (deadline for applications for workshop is 15 August).

Ziemianin’s exhibition “Around the Clock” will be open in the Akusmata gallery 18 – 31 August 2012. Opening of the exhibition Friday 17 August 6-8 pm. MUU’s Sound workshop, run by Ziemanin, will be held in Cartes, Espoo. The residency is organized in cooperation with the Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation.

Kacper Ziemianin biography

Kacper Ziemianin (born 1982) has background in classical music and a lot of adventures in sound, ranging from black metal and electronic music to ambient and noise. After graduating from the Jagiellonian University in his home town Cracow, he moved to London to study Sonic Arts (BA) at Middlsex University, from where he graduated in 2010. In the meantime, he also studied at the Cracow Music Academy with Marek Choloniewski, at STEIM in Amsterdam, and at the University of Arts in Berlin.

At present, Zeimianin’s focus is on building his own instruments and modifying existing ones. His other areas of interest are audio-visual installations, sound design and interactivity. He improvises in live performances using self-made instruments to create live electronic music with a focus on texture.

Ziemianin has created audio-visual installations as well as interactive pieces, he has done sound design for short films and theatre, and works for the best arts radio station in London, ‘Resonance FM’, where his show ‘Polish Deli’ explores the independent music scene in Poland. He has performed and shown his works in Ireland, UK, Finland, Germany, and Poland.
