SUPERMARKET 2010 – Kulturhuset, STOCKHOLM 19-21 February 2010
– Six Finnish galleries and contemporary art organisations will participate
in this year’s Supermarket art fair

Held at Kulturhuset in the heart of Stockholm, Supermarket 2010 is an
international event for artist-run organisations and an alternative to a
commercial art fair organised concurrently in Stockholm. In addition to the
successful art fair now in its fifth year, Supermarket has also acquired
reputation as an international networking event. Supermarket 2010 will
include more than 60 exhibitors from 24 countries.

FixC cooperative, Helsinki

The mission of the FixC cooperative, launched in 2007, is the promotion,
distribution and marketing of Finnish video art and experimental cinema. The
cooperative organises distribution and screening events, installation
exhibitions and live performances in Finland and abroad.

At the FixC pavilion on the third floor of Kulturhuset:
– you can access FixC OPEN 1.0, an online distribution and publicising tool
for media and video art. You can also browse works by artists who use the

– screen videos by member artists of the cooperative: Erkka Nissinen, Juha
van Ingen, Rita Jokiranta, Maria Duncker, Kari Yli-Annala, Seppo Renvall and
Milja Viita as invited guest.

Galleria Huuto, Helsinki

Galleria Huuto is an independent artist collective established in 2002.
Huuto currently maintains two galleries, both in the centre of Helsinki.
Between them, the galleries organise annually some 35-50 exhibitions by both
Finnish and international artists. Huuto also organises events, exchange
projects and visiting exhibitions in Finland and abroad. It has currently 88
artist members.

This year’s Huuto pavilion at Supermarket will include an installation by
Charlotta Östlund. Activities and works of the members of the collective
will also be presented more generally in printed brochures as well as online
presentations. The Talks series of presentations on Sunday will feature Essi


Gallery Rajatila, Tampere

Gallery Rajatila / Rajataide Art Association from Tampere presents at
Supermarket works of  12 artists: Katja Bohm, Julia Jaatinen & Jyrki
Kirjalainen, Jussi Koitela, Jaana Laakkonen, Marko Lampisuo, Johanna Lonka,
Hannamari Matikainen, Olga Palomäki, Johanna Pihlajamaa, Mia Saharla and
Saara Sillanpää.


MUU Gallery, Helsinki

Established in 1987, the Artists’ Association MUU represents new artistic
disciplines such as media, video, light, sound, performance and
environmental art. In February 2010, the association had 530 artist members.
In addition to contemporary art exhibitions, the international programme of
MUU Gallery and MUU Studio includes performances, lectures, concerts and
video screenings. The gallery presents work by more than 150 artists every

MUU’s co-operation partners in Supermarket are Finnish Artist Association
and Photographic Gallery Hippolyte. At Supermarket, MUU will present video
pieces by ten artists: Pasi Autio, Essi Kausalainen, Heta Kuchka, Johanna
Lecklin, Kirsimarja Metsähuone, Sari Palosaari, Simo Rouhiainen, Hanne
Ivars, Juha Mäki-Jussila and Milja Viita.

Supermarket will also feature the launch of MUU FOR EARS 2, a new
compilation in the MUU sound art publication series. The CD features sound
works by ten artists from the Nordic countries: Siri Austeen, Åsa Maria
Bengtsson, Child of Klang, Olle Essvik, Goodiepal, Gintas K, Ida Lundén &
Lise-Lotte Norelius, Pekka Sassi, Marja-Leena Sillanpää and Jimi Tenor.


Gallery Titanik, Turku

Gallery Titanik is an alternative gallery on the banks of the Aurajoki river
in Turku. Maintained since 1988 by the active Artists’ Association Arte, the
gallery seeks to push boundaries and provoke discussion.

At Supermarket, representatives of Titanik will be looking for partners for
an expedition to the South Pole.


Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, Helsinki

Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, founded in 1978, is run by the Union of
Artist Photographers in Finland – a nonprofit artist-run association with c.
350 member artists. The Union promotes and supports photo-based art, and the
professional, economic and social interests of its members. The Union is an
active organizer of also other processes, incl. Helsinki Photography
Festival (www.hpf.fi), and the annual Art Fair Suomi (www.artfairsuomi.fi).

Gallery Hippolyte co-operates with Finnish Artist Association and MUU galery
at Supermarket. Artists presented are Tatu Hiltunen, Renja Leino, Jouko
Lehtola, Ismo Luukkonen, Juha Nenonen, Sini Pelkki, Kari Soinio and Pekka


00130Gallery, Helsinki

00130Gallery is an artist-run gallery and association that has been active
in Helsinki for five years. Operating on the cost-price principle, the
gallery presents primarily non-commercial work by young contemporary
artists. At Supermarket, 00130gallery will present work by seven artists
featured previously in the gallery.
