The exhibition work ‘Waves’ affiliates Jakob Johannsen’s body of work on digital images in the expanded field to the analog photography. Johannsen’s interest lays in photography, that implements a media reflexive approach or deals with socio political relations in his everyday life. After working with photographic media through an abstract approach and with different hand craft materials, Johannsen see’s himself drawn back to photographic practice as the main material for his works. His focus in current projects lays on the photographic gaze and the reflection of image in a wider sense. The work ‘Waves’ is dealing with screen based technical inventions with influence on everyday life, which are always more visible to older generations, than to the ones who grew up with the media as their natural environment.

Opening of the exhibition on Friday 5 April 2019, from 5pm–7pm. Welcome!

Quote of Hito Steyerl:

“Imagine you are free falling. But there is no ground. (…) Paradoxically, while you are falling, you will probably feel as if you are floating–or not even moving at all. Falling is relational–if there is nothing to fall toward, you may not even be aware that you’re falling. If there is no ground, gravity might be low and you’ll feel weightless. Objects will stay suspended if you let go of them. Whole societies around you may be falling just as you are. And it may actually feel like perfect stasis. (…)“
