Cinema as Instrument was a workshop organised by Artists’ Association MUU that explored a new perspective on the relationship between video visuals and its soundtrack. In the one-week workshop, participants created new multi-channel audio tracks for their videos. The resulting works function both as videos and as independent audio artworks. Spatial sound offers all kinds of exciting possibilities for the production of audio plays, audio artworks as well as experimental music.

Artist Markus Renvall, who conducted the workshop, will be at Kino Tapiola to talk about the workshop, multi-channel sound and the audiovisual experience that only cinema can offer.

Chief curator Henna Paunu from EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art will talk about the museum’s dedicated media space and the role of media art in the museum’s collection.

Join us to screen an entertaining hour of audiovisual artworks!

The workshop teachers were sound designer Eero Aro, coder Teijo Pellinen, and artist Markus Renvall.

The workshop was generously supported by the Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture AVEK and Educational Centre Visio.

Established by Artists’ Association MUU in 1995, MUU Media Base is a digital working and training centre and a meeting place for art professionals. MUU Media Base organises training projects and clinics, often with MUU member artists as teachers.
