Re-Voyage, curated by Basak Senova, cross sections earlier Performance Voyage collections.

The Performance Voyage series, international collection of video performances produced annually by Finnish Artists’ Association MUU, gets a sequel, Re-Voyage. Curator Basak Senova has selected 10 works from Performance Voyage 1 – 6.  Re-Voyage is premiered in Kunsthalle Exnergasse – WUK at the end of May.

Titled as Re-Voyage, the selections aim to explore the intersection points between performance and moving image. The performative aspects of each work create situations and potentials for subjective forms of knowledge. The selection presents works by Heidi Kilpeläinen (PV1), Scott Sandwich (PV2), Filippo Berta (PV3), Essi Kausalainen (PV3), Elina Brotherus (PV4), Marja Helander (PV4), Verica Kovaceska (PV4), Marika Orenius (PV4), Sasha Huber (PV5), and Magda Gebhard (PV6).

The themes of previous Performance Voyage collections have been among others Body and Sound (PV3), Domestic (PV5) and Future – Tomorrow (PV6). The Performance Voyage tours organized in 2011-16 have covered more than 76 events in 37 countries. Performance Voyage has traveled to Europe, Asia, Russia, Africa, and North and South America. There has been a total of 89 artists and / or artist groups.

Basak Senova is a curator, reseacher and designer. Senova was the curator of the Pavilion of Turkey at the 53rd Venice Biennale, the curator of the Helsinki Photography Biennial 2014 and much more. She has recently received Associate Professorship by the Higher Education Council of Turkey. Since the beginning of 2017, she has been working on a long-term research-based art project Cross Sections in Vienna, Helsinki, and Stockholm. basaksenova.com

Kunsthalle Exnergasse –  WUK will present also Performance Voyage 7, curated by Heidi Kilpeläinen, Jaakko Nousiainen and Timo Soppela. Performance Voyage 7 with the theme Protest Song Competition! includes works from 18 international artists / groups who explore the political situation and frustrations, the contemporary or future form of the protest song. The artists featured in the Performance Voyage 7 collection are Kuesti Fraun, Kim Dotty Hachmann & Steffi Simmen, Sasha Huber & Petri Saarikko, Heidi Kilpeläinen, Francois Knoetze, Timo Kokko, Paweł Korbus, Vik Laschenov, Elin Magnusson, Elena Mazzi, Iwona Ogrodzka, Ignacio Pérez Pérez, Arja Renell, Kikka Rytkönen, Julia Schicker, Jukka Silokunnas, Niko Skorpio and Elizabeth Wurst.

WUK Werkstätten und Kulturhaus is one of Europe’s largest cultural centers. It was built in the 20th century as a locomotive factory and in 1981 the building created an open, shared working space for associations and cultural operators. Nowadays, WUK works for example. performance, music and children’s cultural center. Every year, 200,000 visitors visit WUK.

Performance Voyage 7 has been supported by City of Helsinki, Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture AVEK, Finnish Institute in London, and Finnish–Norwegian Cultural Institute FINNO.
