Almost 30 visual artists from Finland are participating in the event.

Supermarket Stockholm Independent Art Fair is one of the most international contemporary art events in the Nordic states hosting 53 international exhibitors from 41 cities around the world. Supermarket 2018 will take place at Slaughterhouse 5 (Slakthusområdet, Fållan 10, metro Globen), from April 12th to 15th 2018. Supermarket is, since 2007, the Nordic countries’ leading international art fair. It is an annual artist-run art fair for artist-run galleries. The aim is to provide a showcase for artists’ initiatives from all over the world and to create opportunities for networks in the Swedish and international art scene.

As every year, SUPERMARKET 2018 includes the public programme TALKS & PERFORMANCE, with panel discussions, presentations and performance art. The Professional Networking Participants programme (PNP) also continues with its focus on exchange of knowledge and experience from within the artist-run art scene. The overarching theme of Supermarket 2018 is ‘Legacy: Who Will Survive And What Will be Left of Them?’. It discusses the heritage of art and the fleeting nature of human legacy, the issues of sustainability of the artist-run art scene, or the impact that artists have as individuals.

Galleria Huuto, Helsinki
Galleria Huuto is an artist run association, founded in 2002. It has more than 100 artist members, of which a dozenful is active in running Huuto. Currently Huuto maintains four gallery spaces in the old L3-warehouse in Jätkäsaari neighbourhood. The spaces are booked for the upcoming year for 52 exhibitions by individual artists and artist groups. However, unfortunately Huuto has been evicted from these premises by the end of May due to renovations regarding safety issues, ordered by the City of Helsinki, and Huuto is therefore searching for solutions and new spaces in order to continue as a gallery.

In Supermarket Huuto presents Evidence Room, a group show by Anna Broms, Marjo Levlin, Kasper Muttonen, Kaarina Ormio with Veikko Björk, Azar Saiyar, Marja Viitahuhta and Timo Tähkänen, also known as Maimu Brushwood, an art-loving poet dressed in drag, performing all around the fair as well as at Huuto’s spot.
