performanssi-teksti-logo_kavennettu-3

Vantaa Art Museum ARTSI and PERFORMANCE ART BANK launch a joint open call for artists resident in Finland. All professional performance and live art practitioners can participate by uploading their works to the PERFORMANCE ART BANK during April 2018. The chosen performance will be part of the Erkki Pirtola in Pictures and Words exhibition at Artsi.

Vantaa Art Museum Artsi will organise PERFORMANCE DAYS, the first festival in Finland to feature only professional performance and live art practitioners. Taking place on 7 June 2018, the event will include presentations and discussions, in addition to live performances by professional live art and performance artists. In the open call, we are looking for a performance that would be suitable both for the festival and for the opening ceremony of the Erkki Pirtola exhibition. All submissions should be made through Performance Art Bank.

PRESENTATIONS

PERFORMANCE DAYS: Vantaa Art Museum Artsi and Arts Promotion Centre Finland will organise the first Performance Days event in Finland on 7 June 2018. We are hoping for submissions from a broad spectrum of live art and performance art professionals in Finland – artists, groups and organisations. The event is envisaged as a professional forum that will serve the field on the grassroots level, convene regularly, and also go on tours. It will provide a platform for discussion about the practices of performance and live art, and also a forum for networking. The inaugural meeting will be in the art museum in Vantaa – join us there!

PERFORMANCE ART BANK is an online database that brings together Finnish performances and live art. It provides an easy way to browse, buy and follow performance art. The service is free for artists and clients. The Performance Art Bank is run by Artists’ Association MUU in collaboration with Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

VANTAA ART MUSEUM ARTSI presents exhibitions of contemporary art, with the art collection of the City of Vantaa at its core. Since 2016 Artsi has specialised in street art, graffiti and performance art. Vantaa Art Museum Artsi is located in the Myyrmäkitalo community centre near Myyrmäki railway station.

The Erkki Pirtola in Pictures and Words exhibition (5 June – 29 July 2018) will present a less well-known aspect of the career of Erkki Pirtola – his drawings. Featuring Pirtola’s pictures alongside his texts, the exhibition is a portrait of a verbal virtuoso of Finnish visual art whose extensive output also included comics alongside performances.
