installation in MUU gallery 28.11. 21.12.2003 Concept & realisation: Simon Le Roux & Ismo-Pekka Heikinheimo Propeller ballet is a lively and enjoyable installation, which fills MUU Gallery with a sensuous combination of movement, colour, light and scent. Electrically rotating panels create a dynamic visual world, where colours shine in the winter gloom. Choreographed elements form an endlessly repeating group dance. The installation is like a non-stop show that continues 24 hours a day. During the day one can go into the centre of action in the gallery, and at night observe from the street when the gallery is closed. The South African architect Simon Le Roux and the Finnish choreographer Ismo-Pekka Heikinheimo have worked together for eight years. Their collaboration began in Namibia when Le Roux created a stage set for Heikinheimos choreography Desert Dance. They have designed and realised many stage productions, the latest of which being the interactive dance game Press the Button! (Helsinki Festival 2003) and Ornament (2002), which explored the boundary between the visual arts and dance. Dance film ToF (2002), directed by Heikinheimo and with a set design by Le Roux, has been screened in the Finnish media art festival view03 and at REV´finlande in Paris. |
