Known as an
innovative pioneer in the arts, the Artists´ Association Muu celebrates
its coming of age in 2005 by organising an extensive anniversary exhibition.
The exhibition
is curated by Riikka Ala-Harja, Maria Duncker, Minna Heikinaho and Kari
Yli Annala. They selected 27 members of the Association representing
different areas of new media art. The artists in turn were asked to
select a partner or team from any field of their choosing. Hence, apart
from visual artists, the exhibition features contributions by sound
artists, musicians, composers, set designers, a biologist, an environmental
aesthetician, an opera singer and an architect. The teams have now completed
their challenging work and in February the public can see for themselves
the results of partnerships, such as a team of a conceptual artist and
an opera singer, or a sculptor and a biologist. All works in the exhibition
are new and the genres represented range from sound and light art, environmental
and performance art to conceptual, media and video works.
In addition
to Kunsthalle and the MUU gallery, works will be on exhibit on the facades
of the Lasipalatsi and Kunsthalle buildings and on the 3T tramline.
An extensive catalogue will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.
