Eungyung is a korean woman who was born in New York and moved to Finland two and a half years ago. In this portrait Eungyung tells about her identity and her life in different countries. The images are like photographs, ‘moving portraits’. The video has been filmed in the same places during different times of year, the transition taking place in form as well as content with the object moving from one country to another, the seasons changing from winter to spring, summer and autumn.
The video "Eungyung" by Maria Ylikoski is already the second in her series of video portraits "Siirtymiä", (“Displacements”), the subject of which is people moving from one country to another, their choices and their fates. The first video in the series, "Tuula", premiered in Kunsthalle Helsinki in the spring of 2006, and has since been presented at the Finnish Photography Triennial: TALVIMAA – WINTERLAND (Salo Art Museum) and a major Nordic portrait competition Brewer J.C. Jacobsen’s Portrait Award (Fredriksborg Castle, Copenhagen).
