Paranormal stories told in virtual reality

29.2.-5.4.2020
MUU Cable

Opening ceremony on Friday, 28 February 2020, at 17:00–19:00. Welcome!

PARANORMAL PHENOMENA is an exhibition consisting of three virtual reality experiences that combine a documentary soundtrack with strange, dreamlike visual environments. The people interviewed for the piece talk about love and anger, intense body dysmorphia as well as profound self-satisfaction. Everything revolves around emotions and the body.

The aesthetics of the VR visuals is reminiscent of airbrushed sci-fi visions: organic spaceships, fibreglass mountains, pulsating crystals. And all this is made even more luscious by modern technology.

Paranormal Phenomena invites viewers to stop for a while. Virtual reality is the perfect way of shutting out the hustle and bustle of the outside world. These stories are truly something you can immerse yourself into!

“People are baffled by my body. They wonder whether I’m a man or a woman, and sometimes they mock me or mis-gender me.”

“My body is my skeleton. Everything else is merely what the skeleton needs.”

“I once said I’d rather dead than fat. It may not have been my finest moment, but I meant it.”

“I’m a small man. That’s been a big thing in my life, although most boys find themselves in a physical situation at some point in their lives. It starts with pushing and shoving, changes into wrestling, and then somehow you’re pals. That kind of jostling was just not my thing. I always punched them right in the face!”
