Essi Kausalainen (b. 1979) lives and works in Helsinki. She has studied live art and performance theory in Turku and in Helsinki. Kausalainen works with interdisciplinary medias: her works combine performance, drawing, object making and installation. She has been performing in Finland and abroad from the year 1999. Essi Kausalainen’s works are defined by the presence of a body. They explore the physical experience of being (weight, warmth, touch). In addition to the body, Kausalainen is interested in the spatial and durational scale of performance, stretching it with her process based works that might last over a year and travel through a continent. Currently Kausalainen is working with the themes of metamorphosis – the process of becoming and change. Carole Douillard lives and works in Nantes. After graduating from Beaux-arts de Nantes in 1997 she has exhibited and performed her works in France and New York. Her main tool is language and different sign systems. Douillard sings like a rock star, makes phallos sculptures of gold and minced meat, sleeps at peculiar places and uses rough language.
