“The First Summit of Micronations” was held in the historical settings of Finlandia House in Helsinki. Kings, presidents and representatives of The Principali-ty of Sealand, Ladonia, NSK-state, Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland, Transnational Republic and State of Sabotage met each others for the very first time. The event was organised within the frame of Amorph!03-festival by Artists´Association MUU and it was planned by artists Tellervo Kalleinen & Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen.

A 188-page book has been published on the occassion of the Summit. It contains artic-les by international scholars on the subject, documents related to the history of the parti-cipating micronations and a careful documentation of the events that unfolded during the Summit.

In conjunction with the Amorph!03 Festival a publication appeared discussing the phenomenon of micronations. It presents the necessary materials and basic information to comprehend the phenomenon.

Section I: case studies
This section will look at the cases of the 6 micronations participating in the summit. A history of each will be presented along with state symbols and important documents. A factsheet will provide additional information.

Section II: essays
Susan Kelly: »Something Happens«
Kelly's text speaks more specifically about micro-states. She tries to define a number of key issues associated with them. She assumes that it is most fruitful
to look at micro-states not as just a micro-version of the state, but rather as »experiments with formalisation«. Kelly makes references to all of the 6 participants of the Amorph!03 summit.

Mikka Hannula: »Nightmares fallen from the tree«
Hannula compares micronations with the traditional nationstate in a flow of associative images. He particular writes about The Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland. Mikka Hannula studied politics at the Helsinki University. He is the present director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Hannula is Minister of Sports of Elgaland-Vargaland.

Additional Essays by Marita Muukkonen & Thomas Träskman (NIFCA)
