On August 30, 2003, the Vienna label Sabotage Communications will found its own state on Harakka Island and change its name to "State of Sabotage." First active in 1992 as an art project, operating since 1994 as an international music and art label, collective and organi-zation, Sabotage will now, in 2003, draw its own artistic conclusions and proclaim itself a state - a state in time, with constantly growing territories of its citizens, but without the demarcation of national borders. Everyone can own an SoS passport and enjoy the status of an SoS citizen.
SoS rules itself to the extent that its subjects rule themselves. SoS is a physically vital collective body, installed in real daily social and political space. It is a growing organism whose dynamics, spirit and diversity are shaped by the citizens themselves.
The State of Sabotage manifests itself as a unique sculpture conceived as a monument to artistic visions, territorial free spaces and independencies. For the sculpture's design, Sabotage was able to engage the Swiss artist H.R. GIGER (Alien, Species, Dune). The unveiling of the sculpture will be accompanied by a live act by Philipp Quehenberger and the sculpture will remain on Harakka Island indefinitely.
