history
Peter Callessen dressed occasionally as a King in red velvet back in 1999. He then later started to build his small castles in different places, for example at a park in London or in the harbour of Hamburg. He uses recycled material such as plywood or cardboard for his sympathic empires.

comment
Even though Peter Callesen has no intention of creating his own state he nevertheless points to an interesting connection between all micro-national attempts and the fairy tale world, stories of kingdoms and beautiful princesses in far away empires. It would be a mistake to underestimate the power of fairy tales in the process of building nationhood, which can influence the proclamation of a new state, for example as it happened with Finland. Here the tales told by old men with long beards and written down by the early linguists essentially influenced the identity of the Finnish nation. One could say that without these fairy tales Finland would not be what it is today...

For the amorph!03 festival Peter built a water castle from Styrofoam. It was located near Haraka, guarding the entrance to the sport boat harbour and the waterway to the Harakka island.
